Artist: Nikolas Soren Goodich
Medium: Acrylic on plexiglass on canvas diptych
Dimensions: 48 x 96 x 3 inches
A large-scale diptych that presents symbolic symmetrical and asymmetrical profile portraits mirroring one another with a rainbow of refracted white light seemingly coming either out of or into the eyes of the two profile portraits. On the left is the artists Black grandfather and on the right is his White, Jewish grandfather. Both were named William. The rainbow organizes them in a universal context, referencing the LGBTQIA+ rainbow flag as well as the fact from physics that all light can be broken down into the rainbow. Both Williams never met, but they have metaphorically in the life of their grandson, the artist.
