Dana Flores, a native Californian sculptural artist based in Los Angeles, embarked on her ceramics journey in 1993 at the Potters Studio in Los Angeles. After a year, she decided to travel through parts of Central and South America, drawing inspiration from the natural beauty and rich history of the region. Influences from Mayan temples with their ancient stone carvings, volcanos, jungle plants, and the rustic stoneware in Guatemalan villages became integral to her work.

Delicate gifts from nature found during her travels, such as little rocks, shells, flowers, and seed pods, have left a lasting impression on Dana’s psyche and heart, channeling into the creations of today. A deep love for the desert and its silence inspired her to retreat to Joshua Tree, a place of creative rejuvenation. Time spent there in recent years has reignited her passion for sculptural ceramics.

The influence of being a chef and raising three children over the past 24 years is evident in the detail, shape, and movement of Dana’s pieces. This period has brought her back to core principles when creating new and passionate works. Her pieces are fluid yet rustic and raw in form, resembling giant petals from a petrified garden or sea funnels. Each piece is one of a kind, mirroring the uniqueness of nature, and evokes a desire to take it home as a memento of a personal journey.
