The poster was created to raise awareness and legal support for Eddie J. Carthan, a member of the Tchula 7 of Tchula, Mississippi. He was the first black mayor elected in the Mississippi Delta since Reconstruction. The poster depicts historical scenes, events, and individuals involved in the struggle against slavery and fight for the the right to vote.
