For a long time, I could imagine freedom only as the imagination of another world. In fact, this is how freedom is often defined:  as what it is not. It is not being invaded by another country, not being pinned down, despite our struggles, to the bed, not being made to work for a non-living wage, not having our oceans and waterways destroyed by oil spills and plastic particles that go into the bodies of fish and heat the planet–there are endless examples of what freedom is not.
Only slowly did I realize that freedom could not be found as a no.
