It was a “between” but it was also an “and,” a multiplicity of identity, but also a nothingness, the other side of this “who am I,” deep vulnerability between all the “and’s” and a time where certain veils get lifted.

in institutional ritual 

I think I want you there right as I go into surgery to have my breasts removed.

It’s terrifying, but something you want to do, though you’re still attached to the last identities you’ve had…something more than symbolic, switching nationalities or having a 
surgery that will bring about— 

There’s the one who locked herself in the body of a woman and a man.  
There’s the one cast out into the blistering open, the skin blindfold and the mind.
